Many of you have watched us at Skift as we expanded beyond our main focus of covering travel in to the business of dining through Skift Table over the last two years and, more recently, into the business of wellness through Skift Wellness weekly newsletter.

After these two years, attempting to build a sustainable business with Skift Table has been hard due to the very different dynamics of the restaurant sector, even as our business in travel is going gangbusters globally.

So we have decided to merge Skift Table into our main travel vertical: We will cover restaurants in travel through F&B in the hotel sector and food tourism development in destinations worldwide, both with the similar daily frequency and focus with which we cover other sectors of travel, and we are redeploying some of our editorial to gear up for it.

We have always advised entrepreneurs that learning to say no and learning to focus are two essential skills to building sustainable media companies. As we have seriously thought through these next steps over the last few months, we have been reminded to take our own advice, and this decision stems from it: Let’s double down on the business that is working amazingly well for us, and build on our preeminent authority in travel.

With a total staff of 60+, Skift is now the largest editorial and research media brand in travel and will continue to grow our presence deeper into sub-sectors of travel and wider into other parts of the globe. We are hiring in London and Singapore to grow our teams geographically, and that will continue. We will also continue to build our weekly curated Skift Wellness newsletter and cover wellness travel more through our travel vertical.

Our acquisition of Airline Weekly in fall last year has been integrated very well into our organization and we have big plans ahead for it.

In our global quest to be the most meaningful business media brand in travel, we will continue to grow, both organically and through acquisitions that allow us to focus on this industry we know and love.
